OneAmerica, Alzheimer’s Association Launch National Effort to Prepare for Care

Nationwide sponsorship to kick off at long-term care conference in Chicago

Indianapolis, March 25, 2019

Today, one in three seniors dies with Alzheimer’s Disease or another dementia1, but most people don’t prepare for the long-term care needs of Alzheimer’s until they or someone close to them is diagnosed. Often, that’s too late to ensure they are ready, financially and otherwise, to care for someone living with Alzheimer’s.

To help encourage families to have conversations about preparing for their care before there’s a need, OneAmerica® announced it is launching a national initiative with the Alzheimer’s Association. OneAmerica support will include planning and prevention resources, as well as funding for Alzheimer’s Association research initiatives to help find a treatment, and care and support programs to improve quality of life for those living with the disease.

“Our goal is to help people start those conversations about the care they want, should they need it,” said Chris Coudret, CLU, ChFC, vice president of strategy and business development, Individual Life and Financial Services, OneAmerica. “Often, people don’t realize there are a lot of steps they can and should take when they’re healthy that can help ease the burden on themselves and their families. It all starts with early conversations – between family members, talking about care expectations as they age, and between people and their trusted financial professionals, talking about what steps they can take to prepare for costs of care.”

At the Intercompany Long-Term Care Insurance (ILTCI) conference, March 24-27 in Chicago, OneAmerica and the Alzheimer’s Association will kick off their collaboration, sharing booth space and encouraging ILTCI attendees to share their stories of friends and family affected by Alzheimer’s. At the conference closing session, the Alzheimer’s Association will present new research and host a speaker from their National Early Stage Advisor Group, which includes individuals living with Alzheimer’s. OneAmerica and ILTCI will also present the Alzheimer’s Association with a donation.

“We are pleased OneAmerica is joining with us in the fight against Alzheimer’s,” said Donna McCullough, chief financial officer, Alzheimer’s Association. “Their generous support will allow us to advance research while enhancing care and support programs for all those affected by Alzheimer’s. We appreciate the additional commitment from OneAmerica to help raise awareness about the financial burden of Alzheimer’s, so that more families are better prepared to face this devastating disease.”

OneAmerica works through a network of trusted financial professionals, agents and brokers who help people prepare for retirement. OneAmerica company products, such as asset-based long-term care (LTC) protection, can help protect financial plans from unexpected expenses. OneAmerica asset-based LTC protection is a stable, predictable, guaranteed option to help with LTC expenses, and can include lifetime benefits and protection of two people with one policy.

“Our work together at the ILTCI Conference is just the beginning,” said Tracey Edgar, RN, BSN, CLTC, vice president of sales, Care Solutions, OneAmerica. “In the coming months, we’ll be rolling out even more ways for our network of agents, brokers and financial planners to become involved with this collaboration, support local Alzheimer’s Association chapters nationwide, and become engaged in the mission to help people plan for the reality of today while supporting a better future.”
